Great job for all of you Mel!  What a great running family you have!  And how lucky you are to be able to do what you love to do together!  I've heard a lot about this race, like you said, perhaps we should all do it as a club next year.  I am so thankful for all my running friends that I've had the pleasure to meet and know.  There is something about runners…..!!  Stay uninjured in your coming training, I know you have a lot ahead of you.  I'll look forward to seeing you on the road and in Yoga!Wink

Thanks Sue.  There were a couple reasons for not doing more of the Bison runs but too late for that, the ones we did really helped however.  The marathon training already started.  It's a 24 week, run three day program and I'm now into the 7th week.  I've had to tweak it a couple times because of Kingman and Fontana but those races really help.  I now have to tweak the run days from Tue, Thur & Sat.  I started a yoga class at the gym and it is on Tue & Thur.  I just need to figure if Mon, Wed & Fri are better than Wed, Fri, & Sun.  or some other combination.  Life is so complicated. LOL!

Non-run days consist of biking and cross-training.  It's a good program for me since it's hard for me to run well two days in a row.

Yay – a race report!  thanks, mel.  why didn't we do that bison run more than once? maybe next year.

i'm very proud of you for finishing.  and you are right, if anyone should know better about pre-event training, it's you.  but you still lined up at the start line and then finished – and that's what a motivated athlete does.  you did what you could before the race (good or bad) and you still accomplished a goal.  maybe it wasn't your goal time, but you finished.  Yay!!  and you are still out there doing events and spending precious time with friends and family and making memories with them.  i'm very glad for all of you.

so when does training for st george start?  Kiss

This is really a good fast half marathon, well for well trained runners
anyway. :) Personally, my training has been off and my longest run was under 11 miles. I did a couple runs from the top of Bison but none were more than 6 miles. The best and fastest was one Sue did with me and pushed me the whole way to Kiowa & Industrial…thanks Sue. I could have used a couple more of those but time and weather changed my plan. At any rate my plan for Saturday was to run about 11:30 for the first 5 or 6 miles then try to stick close to 12 for the rest of the way. I know that sounds slow even to me when I used to run this at 6:30-7:00 minute miles. :) My average at 6 miles was about 11:40, close enough for me since I walked thru a couple water stations to get hydrated.  About 7 miles my right foot started getting a hot spot but I was able to maintain under12:30 for the next few miles.  After about 9 my left foot started with the burning so I kept changing my stride and tried landing different.  It did help some but really slowed me to 13:13 for the last two miles.  I’m happy I was able to finish giving my lack of good training but disappointed in myself because I should know better.  Oh yeah, my finish time was 2:42:21 and 2nd in my ag.  First was 2:05:XX and there was someone after me. :)

On the good side Grandson Jimmy was 1st in his ag for the 5K with
16:04 and 9th overall.  Daughter, Judy PRed with 1:34:20, 1st in her ag, Son-in-law Bob PRed with 1:59:01.  Ron finished with 2:19:33.

Both Ron & Bob were experiencing knee problems before the race, Bob also was having a hip issue.  I was having some lower back problems from doing some stuff around the house but don’t know it made that much difference for me.
