so, mel, since you did s mcculloch in the last month or so, i decided to try s mcculloch – again – as i have not done it now in about 2 months. and today reminded me – again – why i don't do it very often. for me, anyway, there is no way to have any sort of speed coming up that street and it just continues to nag at you once you get to any sort of level area and then once you hit cheme, it just continues to climb. it's a challenge physically and mentally.
Mel, with these crazy hill routes you're running I'm going to have to rethink you as the Saturday Group Run route coordinator! It's always very impressive what you accomplish and thanks for sharing!
good job, mel. coming up s mcculloch is brutal but really makes the flats and downhills feel so good. i think during my training i did that about 3 times and finally gave up on it – but probably will try it again sometime. good job to your daughter – she's just rockin' it lately. she's going to do fantastic in san diego in june.
I know I'm not the brightest lightbulb in the room and pretty much proved it today. I decided to do a longer run and get tired of the same routes all the time. I hoped for something around 12 or 13 miles. I remembered from some bike rides from my house via St. McCulloch and up thru Sara Park and back was close to 13. So at 8:45 I took off on this journey. I really was feeling better than I thought I would after the great trail workout yesterday but knowing what was looming ahead ran a nice easy pace. Other than the traffic light at the highway I managed to get to the top in 1:15 without walking the monster hills. I took some extra rest time at the top to use the restroom. The journey home wasn't as nice as going out. Getting back to the highway was good but So McCulloch beat me up. I did manage the 4.2 miles in about 50 minutes whiich included 4 walks totalling about 10 minutes. I don't like running up So. McCulloch anyway. My time was 2:39:30 and the distance as 12.66. Glad I did it. Am I suggesting this might be another interesting training group run for the Havasu Half….no….but then again it could well be.
Just found out my daughter, Judy, finished Surf City 1/2 in 1:59. Not a PR but better than her last two, Vegas and Phoenix RnR. She makes me proud.
