I'm in depending on three things. 1. how much fun I have next week at the Wasatch Back, 2. Whether or not it's a good idea one week after St. George, 3. The budget. :-)

I want so badly to do this relay but can't because I will be in California that weekend running the Long Beach Marathon. You will have so much fun; relay races are a blast!

Gina, Until I started running St. George marathon, Long Beach was my favorite and for several reasons. It was my first marathon (1983), it is my PR marathon (1986) and I ran it nine consecutive years. Back in the days I ran it they held it in Feb, changed to May when LA started then suffered with different dates. They quit holding it for a number of years then started it again with the October date. Just what you really wanted to know. You're a lot faster than I am but maybe we can co-ordinate some of our training since St. George is only one week earlier.

gina, you marathon stud woman!! wow!! what is your thinking behind doing oc and long beach in one year? someone suggested to me next year i do 2 since i'm doing chang in january.

All of you should do St. George!!!!!
Sue, doing more than one or two a year comes down to 'Why are you doing this?'. Some, like me, just do them because I enjoy them, others only want to race one or two a year and go for broke and try to PR. It becomes a basic philosphy and is very individual.Posted 1 year ago # -
I have caught the marathon bug and my strategy behind 2 in the same year was to do the O.C. and "just finish" and then do Long Beach and beat the O.C. time. I am not going to lie to any of you and tell you that I wouldn't LOVE to qualify for Boston but I have a LONG LONG way to go before that happens; especially since my time is 3:50. Yes, at mile 21 I was wondering what the blazes I was doing out there but I can't even describe to you all the feeling of crossing that finish line. The pictures of my finish show me smiling....actually laughing. True, some may have been delirium but I was happy none the less. Besides, I don't know if I told everyone that my New Year's resolution was to run a race a month for the entire year and "so far so good".

Oh, and post script here.....SUE!!!! I didn't know you were going the MARATHON at Chang! You go girl, I love it. My only personal advice to you is to just keep running, run as long a distance as you possibly can. I actually wished I would have done a training run longer than 20 before O.C. Good Luck to you!!!
