It's official - we have our 12 member team for Las Vegas Ragnar Relay October 9-10th. Feel free to join us on our training runs and/or offer to be a "runner-up" in case of injuries or unforseen circumstances of one of our team members. This is going to be a fun and exciting adventure for everyone!

so i need some guidance from my fellow hustlers, please. many hill repeat/training articles talk about finding hills that are so many meters in length and a specific grade in degrees. huh? how do you measure/judge a grade? and how long is a meter? or is sara park just the place to go to run hills? what are the hill grades and lengths in sara park? what other hills in town are good for repeats?

First a meter is about 39 inches, just a little over a yard. For most of us, it's hard to judge the grade of a hill, the steeper the hill the higher the grade. For starters you would want to pick a gentle grade, maybe something like from Pueblo up to S. McC on Chemehuevi. The distance you would want to run should be maybe 150-200 meters. Pick the hill you want to run and run it at a comfortable pace for somewhere around two minutes and see where you are. Jog back to the start then your repeat should be from your start to where you finished the easy run but should take you less time. After each repeat jog/walk back to the start. Run five or six of them to start with. After a couple times then either change the grade of the hill or run further on the same hill. I run them on Tarpon which is a little too steep but it's close to home. When would you be running them? I get to start either track or hill repeats this week and wouldn't mind doing them with someone else. Oh yeah, like every other hard run, warm up for about a mile and cool down the same.
Where were you guys this AM? Missed seeing you.
Hope the above made some sense. Post more questions or comments if you have them.

thanks mel and yes, it made sense. and going up cheme is right here by my house so that will be a good place for me to start. i won't be running them yet this week as i am gone but maybe then soon after that. we weren't at group run saturday morning because i am still sick - this has kicked me down hard. terrible horrible sore throat and no voice and just general yucky. still no voice today but at least the sore throat is gone. hope you had a good run and will see you next saturday. thanks again for the tips.

Sue, not a good time of the year to be sick. Hope you get feeling better soon. I'll be gone the next two weekends but hope to be able to get some cooler, albeit more humid runs in while in PA.
