4 miles of hills for me!
I keep hearing, "hills are speedwork in disguise."
You all think that's true? I'd like to believe it.
But I'm pretty sure, hills are helpful, but they can't replace speedwork.

I did 6.3 at a slow recovery pace after yesterdays 5 x 800 on the track. Of course all my runs are slow @ recovery pace anymore.
Are you training for a specific event right now?

    I've done 16 races in 2009.

Thankfully, the local running series is almost over and I can concentrate on fall half marathons. The half seems like a perfect distance--far enough to be challenging--but you leaves you feeling well enough to enjoy the rest of the day--and a terrific excuse to travel. Not really training for a specific race. You?

Hello Sunshine and welcome to our forum board. I've been training for a few things at once. Tomorrow I ride the bike portion of an Olympic Relay Triathlon; two weeks from now I do the full Olympic Triathlon - 1500 meter swim, 25 mile bike, 10k run; then two weeks after that I run three legs in a 175 mile relay with 11 other runners - one of which is kodi (above).

I love hill work and although it's tough and increases your heart rate, it doesn't make up for the leg turnover speed work does for you. Speed work is the best way to get faster - bar none! I love the quote "if you want to get faster, you need to train faster".

    Wow!
    Triathalons!!
My friends keep pushing me to do one/some with them. Scared of bikes. Correction: scared of TRAFFIC.
They assure me it will be the SWIMMING that will get me.
Thanks for the tip about speed work. Wondering if I will ever enjoy that aspect of running. I once felt the same way about distance and hills, and I'm good with both of those elements.
Never done a race relay, but am looking forward to that in the future. Have talked my 4 siblings into WALKING a half marathon together next year. VERY excited about that, as a couple of them are pretty sedentary.

training for me today was the group run at rotary - 10 miles total. (although i missed the group.)

we are in a great area for speed work and hills here in havasu.

good luck with your siblings and walking the half - hopefully doing this will help them become less sedentary.

Today, my training consisted of REST after church!!!!!!!!!
I'm forever preaching to my running buddies that REST is a VITAL part of training.
For years I trained 7 days a week. I realize there are lots of "streakers" who have long running streaks and kudos to them (or YOU, if you are one!!) but what works for ME is a couple of days off a week.
Which brings me to another point: I'm a big believer in listening to your own body. What works for me, might not work for you, and vice versa.
Happy Running to all of you!
