I have had a dream to start running. My 37th birthday is approaching and I would so like to start running 5Ks, 10ks, and eventually a half/full marathon. I know all of this will take time, but I'm willing to put in the time and effort.
The problem is that I have zero, none experience in running. I want a group that I can go with that will motivate me and support me, but I feel like I'm going to be the remiedal loser in this club.
Are there any others like me here? Is it going to be a hinderence to your group if I show up. Motivation is sky high! Effort is through the rough. My husband is supportive. My skills are totally lacking. I will not be offended if this is not the place for me. I just need something, or a direction to help me out.
    Any ideas? Can I join?

I'm sure Karen with address this directly. She has very succesfully had some beginning runner sessions and had non-runners doing 5Ks by the end of their session. I don't know when her next one is scheduled but I'm sure there will be one. In the meantime I would suggest you start walking 3 or 4 times a week and everytime you go out go a little further. Depending on where you live in town map out a course about 1 mile and do it until you can comfortably complete the mile. Break it down in segments maybe 1/4 mile to start, but this will depend on you current level of fitness. Other good places to walk is the loop around the island. The total distance there is 3.66 miles and there are mile markes every 1/2 mile. The tracks at Thunderbolt Middle School, Daytona and the HS are all 1/4 miles tracks. Thunderbolt is the best, the other two are dirt.
We always welcome new runners to the club so welcome and sign in often.

Absolutely you can join! We love new runners and appreciate the motivation and effort you're willing to take to better your life. I did send you an email regarding the group runs which you are welcome to attend. While most the runners will go at their own pace, we can offer suggestions as to how far you should go, althernating between running and walking as Mel stated above and meet you at the end to see how you did. It's great having other members there to support and encourage you. Look forward to seeing you on the road!

The "novice" met my group for our 4:30 Safeway run this morning and although she did not RUN, she walked most of the loop and did great. I had her go about 1/2 mile less than us runners and we met her on the way and up and again on the way down and we waited for her in the end. Like I said, she did not want to actually run with us today but I am hoping we can slowly work her up to it. Great job Michelle!

This morning our "little novice" ran a little. She and I are going to work together more next week. I felt bad because I couldn't work with her much this week because we have a race this weekend!

You guys are great to help out the new runners. Soon Michelle will be running circles around the rest of us. Sounds like she ran farther than I've been able to run this month. Good job.

Gina, it has been an absolute blast meeting you guys last week! I think that I am really going to start to get into this! Thank you for your patience and being so supportive. Slow and steady, right?
Hope that you had a great time at the marathon, can't wait to hear about it on Tuesday!

P.S. My son really enjoyed coming with us on Thursday, I think that he will start to join me. It is neat to be able to share this with him. Hard to find some common interests with a 17 year old son :)

    See you Tues!

    Michelle
